NEW PORT RICHEY — When they come together to support a charitable cause the Chrome Divas of Tampa Bay ask themselves or their friends, “Have you helped someone today?”

The Chrome Divas, a group of female motorcycle enthusiasts, have again decided to help patients and families by supporting the third Hittin’ the Road for Hospice, a poker run through Pasco County to benefit Gulfside Hospice.

Last year alone, the women raised more than $5,000 for the event. This year, the Divas are determined to top that and have already raised nearly $7,000 in pledges.

The group supports many charitable causes throughout the year, but one of their favorites is Gulfside Hospice. For many of the group’s members, fundraising for the event is a personal way to give thanks for the care given to their family members.

“I came to realize how important hospice is to families during the passing of my dad,” Chrome Diva Amber Dimalanta said in a news release. “Although we were adults, my brother and I really didn’t know how to react to the passing of our hero, Dad. Hospice took over and led the way for us.”

“We are so grateful for the Chrome Divas and all the support they provide to Hittin’ the Road for Hospice,” said Carla Armstrong, director of philanthropy for Gulfside Hospice.

The Chrome Divas were last year’s top fundraising team and could retain the title, Armstrong said.

Registration for Hittin’ the Road will begin at 8 a.m. March 29 at Harley-Davidson of New Port Richey, 5817 State Road 54.

Stops on the run include Sky Powersports West in Port Richey, Papa John’s in Land O’ Lakes and Neon Cowboy Sports Bar in Dade City.

Riders can enjoy a post-run celebration with a bike show, music, vendors, silent auction and prizes for the best and worst poker hands at the final stop, the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Zephyrhills 3752.
